Keeping electric lines clear of vegetation
VICTORIA
Electricity companies in Victoria, and the contractors that they engage to undertake
tree clearing and other such activities to ensure that electric lines are clear of vegetation,
must comply with the Code of Practice for Electric Line Clearance 1999.
You can get a copy of the Code from your electricity company or from Information Victoria.
If you have a complaint about powerline clearance/tree clearing from electric lines
that you cannot sort out with your electricity company or the contractor,
you should contact the Energy and Water Industry Ombudsman Victoria.
Energy and Water Ombudsman (Victoria) (EWOV)
The EIOV receives, investigates and resolves disputes between Victorian
electricity customers
and their electricity (and gas and water) companies.
Its services are independent of the electricity companies and free to both domestic
and business users.
The Ombudsman works with a board of directors made up of consumer and
energy industry representatives and an independent chairman.
The Ombudsman has the power to make a binding decision, including compensation of
up to $10,000 (and up to $50,000 if you and the company both agree.)
